Who I am and why I’m here

Welcome to The Lion Roars, a New Japan Pro Wrestling blog. I’m Mike, and I’ve been working as a writer and editor for more than 20 years. I’ve been a fan of NJPW for over a decade; it is the promotion that best presents my preferred flavor of pro wrestling, which emphasizes in-ring competition and storytelling over the style-over-substance spectacle that tends to be the norm in many other promotions.

Also, I’ll be honest with you – I am between jobs at the moment, and I hope to use this blog to help maintain my writing chops in the meantime. I hope to maintain this blog as much as possible, though we’ll see how this goes. I may also set up a Patreon to help offset the cost at some point in the future, but I’d like to get this up and running first.

I hope to start regular coverage of major events with The New Beginning on Wednesday. Thanks so much for joining me!
